| A manufacturer of complex motor
armatures had a conventional washer that failed to clean very
complex parts (layered disks with an inserted shaft). Plaforization proved to be the solution, because it penetrates exceptionally
well and removes the oils.
Highly polished steel and stainless steel caused
severe topcoat adhesion problems after conventional cleaning.
But Plaforization solved the problem, because the one-micron
seal promotes adhesion by forming a strong bond with the epoxy
powder.
After treatment, parts will not flash rust for
weeks before coating when stored indoors. That means no rusting
as your parts emerge from the washer. It means you can do
batch coating when orders come in with particular specifications.
Adhesion is outstanding because the one-micron
seal forms a chemical and physical bond with the topcoat.
It works to promote adhesion even on stainless steel and highly-polished
surfaces. With Toran technology, a chemical and physical bond is made directly to the metal rather than through a phosphate bridge. And Toran cures in part along with the topcoat, creating very strong intercoat adhesion. The result is that a Toran-treated and coated part can withstand difficult soak and boiling water tests.
Plaforization pretreatment makes a phosphate
of the substrate metal so that, for example, it forms a zinc
phosphate over galvanized steel and an iron phosphate over
steel, with the one-micron seal on top.

Plaforization's corrosion resistance
is better than conventional iron phosphate on steel because
of the one-micron seal in the Plaforization process, and is
of course even higher on metals such as galvanized steel and
aluminum.
Toran gives consistent results in the zinc phosphate range. Impact resistance is excellent, because the
one-micron seal is very flexible and does not crack or chip
under the topcoat as ordinary pretreatments do. |
“Ecophor A447 has performed well, meeting
or exceeding our required performance specifications.”
"We tried for a year to disprove Plaforization™ before we decided to use it. Plaforization™ really works."
[In addition to energy and capital cost savings],
“a bonus for us is the great performance and consistent
results we get.”
“We have been using Plaforization since
the spring of 2004 and found that the adhesion of our liquid
and powder paints is dramatically improved. Our parts rejections
due to poor adhesion are a thing of the past.”
